Record is drawn from the first thirty issues of Daido Moriyama’s personal publication, dating back to its
origins in the seventies. The magazine provided a diaristic platform for this extraordinary photographer.
Beside the pictures taken on his familiar ground in Tokyo and Osaka, Moriyama photographed the streets
of New York, Los Angeles, Florence, Paris and London as he would have recorded the lanes and alleys
of his hometowns. Once regarded as the leading Japanese photographer of his generation, Moriyama
has come to transcend such a description. He is an artist in constant motion and his subject matter is
both stark and universal.
